2025 was an incredible year for Trafalgar Castle School. Not only did the year wrap up our 150th Anniversary celebrations, but it also saw some new firsts, new awards and some major accomplishments! Here are (just a few of) the highlights from 2025:
- Launched a new logo that honours our past and looks forward to the future

- First-ever Trafalgar Hockey Night with the Oshawa Generals
- Trafalgar earned College Board’s AP® Computer Science Female Diversity Award for expanding young women’s access to both AP Computer Science A (CSA) and AP Computer Science Principles (CSP)
- Our school production of Frozen Jr. was a big hit!
- Trafalgar’s Senior Student Alexzandra P. had the winning pitch for the Youth and Philanthropy Initiative Canada (YPI)
- Small Ensemble won Gold, Castle Band & Wind Ensemble won Silver and String Ensemble won Silver Plus at OBA
- Wind Ensemble won Gold at MusicFest Nationals
- Castle Singers won Gold at the Ontario Vocal Festival and Gold at MusicFest Nationals
- Castle Chorale won Platinum Status at Kiwanis Festival and 1st Place for Elementary Schools at Ontario Music Festival Association’s Provincial Finals (OMFA)
Our student Elayna, placed in the Top 10 of all of Ontario in OFSAA Swimming- Trafalgar’s MATE Robotics Team won the Octopus Award at the MATE Robotics Competition
- Grades 7 & 8 Lego Robotics Teams won the Women in Engineering Award and Best Poster Design at the Ontario Tech University SumoBot Competition
- Four of our Students won the National Latin Exam Awards
- 11 Junior and Middle School Students made it to the Top 10 in Track and Field Championship Finals and awarded Bronze in Long Jump
- Nine Trafalgar students in grades 9-12 made the top 25% in the University of Waterloo’s Mathematics Contests
- Trafalgar’s DancePac earned the Platinum Award, Choreographer’s Award, Sapphire Award and Emerald Award at the Strive Dance Competition
- Trafalgar Senior Students Chelsea P., Sophie C.M. and Nini C. performed with the Ontario Provincial Honour Band
- Senior Student Sophie C.M performed with the Jack Long National Honour Band
- Trafalgar’s Grade 7 Cross Country Team placed 5th at CISAA
- Five Gr. 12 artists — Indiya R., Jenise Z., Hailey Y., Cuba C.H. and Abigail F. — along with Visual Arts Teacher, Ms. Wainman, had their art accepted into the Rare Form/33rd Annual Juried Exhibition at the Station Gallery
- Trafalgar’s school community raised 1.18 million in the first year of the three-year goal of $2M for the Fitness and Well-Being Centre

- Trafalgar’s Castle Chorale performed at Queen’s Park
- Trafalgar’s Senior Field Hockey team achieved Second place
- Trafalgar’s Senior Cross Country Runner Kayley ran to a 5th place finish at CISAA and qualified for OFSAA
- Trafalgar’s Senior Track Athlete Mary was the CISAA Gold medalist in Long Jump and qualified for OFSAA
- Junior School teacher, Ms. Tracia Watson, was awarded the Journal of Motor Learning and Development (JMLD) Excellence in Research Award for Best Paper Published in a Volume
- Jessica Yam, Trafalgar’s Sous Chef, completed the “Women Empowering with Impact Culinary” event and had one of her recipes featured in the “Women of Talent” Cookbook
- Trafalgar’s Technology teacher, Ms. Penny Senior was awarded the Prime Minister’s Award for Teaching Excellence in STEM
- Trafalgar’s Class of 2011 alumna, Dr. Jennifer Horawski, was awarded the FIRST Robotics Canada Alumni of Distinction Award
Trafalgar’s Class of 2005 alumna Hill Kourkoutis garnered her second Juno Awards nomination for Recording Engineer of the Year- Trafalgar hosted the 2nd Annual Women Who Inspire event with the Town of Whitby
- Our students embarked on a Service Experience to the Dominican Republic
- Trafalgar’s 150th Alumnae Reunion Weekend was a massive success
- Trafalgar launched the Distinguished Alumnae and Distinguished Young Alumnae Awards, recognizing four recipients – Dr. Roopan Gill, Hill Kourkoutis, Megan MacKay and Dr. Nabeela Bhaloo
- Trafalgar received a three-year pledge of $200,000 for our Fitness and Well-Being Centre
- Trafalgar’s Gala Royale was a huge success, raising $12,000 for the Fitness and Well-Being Centre.
- Trafalgar’s school community raised 1.18 million in the first year of our three-year goal of $2M for the Fitness and Well-Being Centre
