Canadian And International Boarding Student Admissions

Our boarding program attracts a mix of Canadian and international students in Grades 7 to 12. Many Canadian students value the opportunity of a boarding experience while international students appreciate the close connections and friendships they develop with Canadian students and students from around the globe.

There is no substitute for feeling the unique energy that Trafalgar Castle School evokes. We encourage families to visit our campus and meet with our Admissions Team but understand that with travel from far-away destinations, this is not always possible during the application process. Interviews via Skype are arranged at a time that is convenient for you.

Student Enrolment Procedure

Trafalgar Castle School has a rolling admissions process. Applications are accepted throughout the year; however, our busiest admissions period is between October and February. Families are encouraged to apply early as our boarding program typically fills quickly and student visas require time to process.

All boarding applicants are required to complete the online application package and provide:

Completed online application form;
Two consecutive final report cards;
Language test for international students (eg. IELTS, TOEFFL or Duolingo);
Reference letters; and
Application fee.

The student’s application package is then assessed and eligible candidates are invited for an in-person interview where possible or interview via Skype. Once the interview has been completed and all required documentation received, the application package is referred to the Admissions Committee for review. At this point, successful candidates will receive an official letter of acceptance. Typically, they will be informed of the Committee’s decision with two weeks of the completed application.

Frequently Asked Questions

I received a Letter of Acceptance from Trafalgar Castle School. What happens now?

Families are asked to sign and return the Letter of Acceptance, together with a one-time acceptance fee of $2,500 and a $4,500 deposit as a prepayment toward the tuition fee. Upon receipt of the signed Letter of Acceptance and required payments, your boarding spot is secured for the following school year.

I have been placed on a Wait List. What does this mean?

The School has a designated number of boarding spots in each of the Grades 7 to 12, and some grades fill quickly. If boarding for your chosen grade becomes full during the application process, you may be offered a place on our Wait List. No acceptance fee or deposit is required for you to be on the Wait List. You will be informed if a space becomes available, at which time a formal Letter of Acceptance will be made.

How are payments made to the School?

I do not have a local guardian. Will the school act as my guardian?

No. Trafalgar Castle School does not act as a Guardian to students. International families must name a Guardian who is either a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident and who resides within a 100km radius of the School, is over the age of 21, and speaks English fluently. Families may elect to hire third-party consultants to provide Guardianship. Our Admissions Team is happy to recommend Guardianship companies.

How do I apply for an international student study permit?

Our boarding and International Admissions Officer is available to support you through the application process and will provide you with the required Official Letter of Offer, confirming enrolment. It is important to submit your study permit application as soon as possible in order to receive your permit before the start of the school year. The Government of Canada publication, Five Key Steps to Speed Up Your Study Permit Application, is a helpful document. Guardian consultants can also assist with your application. Should your application for a study permit be denied, all fees (minus the application fee) will be refunded once you have provided us with an official letter from the Embassy showing proof of refusal.

Is it necessary to have a medical exam as part of the study permit application?

What travel arrangements should I make? Will the school arrange transportation from the airport?

Are there times during the school year when the boarding School closed?

Yes. Typically during the school year, the boarding School will be closed for long weekends during Canadian Thanksgiving (October), Fall mid-term break (November), Winter mid-term break (February), and Victoria Day Weekend (May).

The boarding school is also closed during winter holidays and March Break. Guardians must make arrangements if you do not participate in supervised trips or the Boarder Buddy program.

What is the Boarder Buddy program?

Am I required to purchase medical insurance?

Canada does not pay for hospital or medical services for visitors. Under Ontario law, you are required to have the appropriate immunization prior to entering school. The Medical Officer of Health is required to enforce this regulation. Medical and Health forms must be completed by all students and are to be handed in upon arrival. All Canadian students must be covered by the Ontario Health Insurance. International students are required to enrol in the health insurance plan as prescribed by Trafalgar Castle School. The fee for this health plan is approximately $750 and will be billed to the student’s account. This coverage is mandatory for all international students and is required as part of the documentation to apply for student visa and study permit.

My parents will provide me with spending money. Can I open a Canadian bank account?
