On December 18, Ms. Kuchirka, Ms. Barbita and the Indigenous Studies Club facilitated the KAIROS Blanket Exercise during Power Hour. The purpose of the exercise is to allow for students to participate in an interactive display of the history and complex relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada, from the time of settler contact and into the twenty-first century.
Some of the topics that the exercise touched on were hunter-gatherer communities, important legal documents, residential schools, the sixties scoop, and ended with the hope of reconciliation and leadership within Indigenous and non- Indigenous communities to bring about positive change.
