During Power Hour on May 7, the Grade 8 students had the opportunity to hear from highly sought after ‘motivational mathing’ speaker and The Math Guru founder Vanessa Vakharia. Vanessa is a certified high school math teacher with a Masters in Mathematics. While she founded The Math Guru in 2010 to change the world one student at a time, her ultimate dream is to change the culture surrounding EVERY aspect of education. She spoke to the students about shaping self-concept in math, challenging gender stereotypes and deconstructing media messaging. Â
